Money can’t buy you style. Just ask Lionel Messi, whose choice of outfits leave a lot to be desired (remember the red tux?!). Thankfully the Hollywood stars know their onions, although as awards season gets into full swing with the Baftas and the Oscars following hot on the heels from the Golden Globes, we still saw a huge range of styles, from the classic to the contemporary, through to the downright bizarre on the red carpet.
The classic tuxedo may seem like the obvious option for a prestigious award ceremony but the Golden Globes showed us some great twists to the traditional outfit. If you want to bend the rules you could always take some inspiration from Matthew McConaughey and Chris Hemsworth and go with the controversial, coloured velvet tux. Messi all over again!
Or you could try Usher’s allover burgundy ensemble. No? Us neither!
Alternatively it may just be wiser to play with colour and texture with your accessories. Try experimenting with your cufflinks (animal shapes and funny slogans are all the rage) or give your outfit a shot of personality with a bold waistcoat or cummerbund. Finally, top the look off with a distinctive coloured or patterned bow tie. Naturally we have a great selection at Johnny Tuxedo, including our rather epic diamond-shaped self-tied bow ties in a whole host of luxurious corduroys.
Lastly, you can tell a lot about a man from his shoes, so why not swap the standard patent leather shoe for a well polished, black leather Derby shoe or loafer like Hollywood’s finest.
But whatever your look, make sure your tuxedo fits you like a glove. The guys in hired suits really don’t get the girls.
